BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS 2006
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2 P.M.
"It will be a zoo at Bethany this Sunday," declared Pastor Andrea Ernest, "and that's the way we like it!" All creatures great and small are invited to the annual Blessing of the Animals at Bethany Lutheran Church this Sunday, October 1, at 2:00 p.m. The church, located on the corner of First and 'A' Streets in Brunswick, will host pets of all kinds (along with the people they love) in the church yard for an informal gathering of thanksgiving and celebration. This service also includes an individual blessing by name for each for the animals attending. Treats for both pets and humans will be offered, and a free will offering will be taken to benefit Friends for Life Animal Rescue, a no-kill animal rescue organization.
Bethany holds this service each year in early October on a Sunday close to St. Francis' Day (October 4), recalling the great love that Francis of Assisi showed for each creature of God. Many of the members of Bethany count pets as important members of their families, and both Pastor Andrea and office volunteer Donna Getzandanner bring their dogs to work in the church regularly. In addition to dogs and cats, services in past years have brought blessings to such a variety of critters as hamsters, hermit crabs, and a rooster.
Please grab your furry and feathered friends (using leashes or cages, as needed) and join in the Blessing of the Animals Sunday, October 1, 2:00 p.m. at Bethany, Brunswick. Bethany joins in worship each Sunday morning at 10:15, and offers Sunday Church School classes for all ages each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. For more information, please call Pastor Andrea Ernest at 301-834-8003, or visit www.mybethany.org. Bethany Lutheran is a place of God's love with a place for you!
